Meet our artistic director Suchismita Ganguly

A particular expertise of Suchismita is storytelling using a combination of dance & theatrical techniques which had led her to conceptualise & choreograph a few dance theatres and dance films in the recent years.

Having been trained in bharatanatyam under the tutelage of Guru Thankamani Kutty in India, Suchismita’s career as a professional dancer spans over more than 20 years.

Since her Arangetram debut in 1996, she has performed in some of the most prestigious dance festivals in India including Konark Dance Festival in Orissa, Uday Shankar Dance Festival in Kolkata, Puri Beach Festival in Puri and Dover Lane Dance Festival in Kolkata. Since coming to the UK, she has performed widely all over the UK as well as in Germany and in the US.

In 2012, she was cast as Sita (the lead character) in an innovative project with Walk the Plank and Annapurna Dance Company, in which the story of Ramayana was told using shadow dance in an outdoor venue in Manchester in front of nearly 10,000 audience. Eight years later, she applied the skills she learnt in shadow dance and experimented with it in her 2020 production Rhapsody in Shadows.

She is also actively teaching & training next generation of dancers in the UK using a combination of face to face and online classes.
