Paper Boats, 2021

Concept & Choreography: Suchismita Ganguly

Direction, filming & editing: Shobhon Ahmed

This short film is inspired by the Noble Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s famous poem, ‘Paper Boats’. The poem is about an innocent child and her dreams. She plays by the stream, makes paper boats and floats them down the running stream every day. `She writes her name and the name of her village on the paper boats. She hopes someone in some strange land would find her boats and know who she is.

The poem explores the child’s deep sense of love and imagination. In Tagore’s own words, “Do not limit a child to your own learning, for she was born in another time”.

Commissioned by Annapurna Indian Dance, the film premiered in November 2021 as part of the digital festival, “Indian Tales of Love & Wisdom”, organised by Annapurna.
